Big Boy Troy came into the shelter, a plain, blocky-headed, brindle dog who was infected with heartworms. Though sweet, friendly and playful, he had a hard time finding a forever home. Thanks to generous donations from our community that help keep our EmBark transport program on the road, Big Boy Troy was able to find his new home through one of our partner shelters who helped him get the life-saving treatment he desperately needed.

His mom recently sent in an update on how he’s doing:

Big Boy Troy is a big ‘ol teddy bear!” says his new mom. “We wanted a big, gentle dog to add to our family of 5, that we knew could be patient with our 20 month old little girl. We were at [one of your partner shelters] looking for our new family member when our little girl, Amelia, walked right up to his kennel and put her little hand on the glass, and Big Boy Troy walked right up to her little hand and wagged his tail. Then, Amelia layed on her tummy with her little nose right up to the glass, and Big Boy Troy followed suit and layed down with his nose right up to her nose and licked the glass.”

“We took Troy home that same day and we have fallen even more in love with him since then! Troy has completed his heartworm treatments and so far, he has done very well. We look forward to enjoying his energetic personality more in a month when he's finished his final course of steroids for the heartworms. Thank you for taking him in and caring for him so that we were able to adopt him!
Having spent 5 weeks with this sweet guy, our team is so thrilled that our buddy is adopted and doing well and we are so grateful to be a part of such a caring community that makes these transport opportunities and new beginnings possible.

Help more dogs like Big Boy Troy find their happy, new beginnings!
