Fall in love with your new best friend.

Are you considering adding a furry friend to your family? We'd love to help you find your purrr-fect match! Below you will find our photo albums of the pets we currently have available for adoption, as well as helpful information about adopting a pet from Southern Pines.
A note about our adoption fees
We believe every pet deserves a happy new beginning with a family who loves them. To better help all of the pets in our care find loving homes, our adoption fees are based on a sliding scale. This sliding scale helps us provide increased adoption opportunities for those pets who historically have a harder time standing out in the shelter by reducing their fees and/or funding their treatment and care to provide them with lifesaving second chances.

This means that highly desirable pets or breeds may have an increased adoption fee to offset those costs. Highly adoptable animals never struggle to find homes quickly regardless of their fees, so these increased fees directly helps pets like seniors, pets with medical needs, heartworm positive dogs, and many others by allowing us to reduce their adoption fees and pay for treatments to get them ready to find the happy new beginnings they deserve.

When you adopt a pet with a higher adoption fee, not only are you making a life-saving difference for the pet you are bringing into your family, but you are also helping to save the lives of less fortunate pets as well!

What kinds of pets do you have available for adoption?
Cats and dogs of all ages and sizes are available for adoption at Southern Pines Animal Shelter. Puppies and kittens are always on hand, but because adult animals are less likely to be adopted, we especially encourage adoption of "longtimers”.

Why should I consider an adult cat or dog?

Adult pets are especially good for homes where the family is gone all day to school or work. An adult dog or cat can also be a great companion for an older adult.

Adopting an adult pet minimizes the surprises—it ensures that the dog is the size desired, whether small or large, and allows the adoptive family to choose a dog with the desired temperament, whether rambunctious, laid-back, confident, cuddly, or shy.

Do your cats and dogs receive any veterinary care prior to adoption?

Upon entering our facility, all of our animals are dewormed and given age-appropriate vaccinations. Dogs receive a heatworm test, DA2PPV, and a Bordatella vaccination. Cats receive an FVRCP vaccination, and adopters may request an FELV test at the time of spay/neuter surgery for an additional $15. All adopted animals are microchipped and spayed/neutered. We do recommend that all animals under 1 year of age have a second set of shots within two weeks of leaving our facility. This is not provided in your adoption fee, and it is something your vet must administer.
When can I come visit the shelter?
We’re open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 12pm–6pm. Sundays we are open for adoptions only, and we are closed on Wednesdays. At any one time, we may have as many as 230 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.

Look for Our Shelter Pets at PetSmart and Petco!

The Southern Pines Animal Shelter is a PetSmart Adoption Partner and a Petco Adoption Partner. Cats and kittens are available most days at PetSmart in their cat adoption area. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we are not currently housing cats or kittens at Petco.
