Transport Coordinator - Job Description

Specific duties of the Transport Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversee cleaning and care of transport room and other transport holding areas
    • During morning cleaning time, all holding areas for transport animals should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
    • Ensure all animals waiting for transport are in secure, appropriately-sized housing with comfortable bedding.
    • Ensure all animals waiting for transport have water at all times
    • Help with afternoon feeding
    • Aid and observe morning cleaning of kennel area, cat and kitten cottages, and interior rooms when there are no transport animals to clean up after or when cleaning of transport animals is complete
  • Assist with transport planning and follow-up
    • Coordinate with Shelter Manager to create transport lists for upcoming transports
    • Create photo lists for upcoming transports, ensuring that photos of all animals are an acceptable quality
    • Ensure animals on hold for transport have appropriate kennel signage and are clearly marked on the office board
    • Coordinate with Kennel Leads to create a plan for movement of animals to create combinations and move animals to appropriate locations which should then be approved by Shelter Manger
    • Coordinate with the Foster Coordinator to prioritize transport animals for foster
    • Coordinate with Foster Coordinator and Veterinary Technician to ensure all transport animals receive vaccinations on time
    • Coordinate with Foster Coordinator to ensure all fostered transport animals arrive on time for health checks
    • Ensure transport room is set up for incoming animals
    • Assist Medical Director with health checks  
    • Help load transport animals
    • Clean and disinfect transport room immediately after transport animals depart
  • Uphold the values and mission of shelter in all actions and communications with rescue/shelter partners, the public, and other staff members
  • Assist with rescue placement for special needs and urgent animals
    • Reach out to partner rescues and new rescues to find placement for animals
    • Coordinate with Shelter Manager to create and post Urgent Animals albums
    • Co-manage the Southern Pines Animal Shelter Urgent Animals page

Thursday - Sunday:  12pm - 5pm
