Job Title: Maintenance Worker

Reports to: Shelter Director

Full time, hourly position. Possibility for irregular work hours that change from week to week. 

Summary: Our Maintenance Worker would be responsible for the regular repair and upkeep of our shelter facilities and grounds.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to:

• Repair structures, machines and equipment using tools such as saws, hammers, wrenches and drills and ensure work is done correctly and safely
• Carry out corrective, preventative and emergency maintenance on electrical components, plumbing and property facilities
• Analyze problems and tasks and ensure the availability of the necessary tools and materials needed to complete the work sufficiently
• Repair or replace doors, walls, windows and flooring as needed and perform various other basic carpentry tasks
• Ensure security and safety in all buildings and report to the supervisor immediately on any safety hazards
• Maintain and repair lawn equipment as required and perform stump and brush removal, debris cleanup and tree and shrub maintenance
• Diagnose mechanical problems with equipment and determine solutions, utilizing blueprints, parts catalogs and repair manuals as needed
• Make recommendations if specialists are required to complete additional electrical, plumbing, vehicle, or equipment repair services

Job Skills & Qualifications
Required:

• Willingness to complete on-the-job training
• Ability to lift 50 or more pounds
• Experience using hand tools

Preferred:

• Knowledge of building, fire and OSHA regulations
• Janitorial and groundskeeping experience
• Basic plumbing experience
• Basic electrical experience
• Basic vehicle maintenance experience

Skills Sought:

• Chain link fence and gate installation and repair
• Replace and install bulbs, ballasts, and lighting fixtures
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical appliances (scales, intercom, washer/dryer)
  • Security system (diagnose and repair wiring to security cameras
• Plumbing including: installing new fixtures, removing clogs, repairing leaks, installing new water lines and drains as needed
• Carpentry skills including: deck and porch repair, replacing doors and trim, minor remodel modifications
• Painting and floor repair
• Heat and AC troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair
• Lawn care and landscaping

Job Specifics

• 30-40 hours per week
• Work between 3 program locations
