As our community works together to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Southern Pines Animal Shelter is still committed as ever to saving the lives of the animals in our care while also keeping public health and safety a top priority.
To that end, we have put in place enhanced sanitization protocols and social distancing measures to help keep our team members and community safe. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who’s assisted in making all these necessary changes happen over such a short period of time. |
Current Shelter COVID Guidelines & Info
Updated 6/27/2020
The shelter is once again welcoming visitors back onto the shelter property...with a few new guidelines. To help keep everyone safe the following policies are in effect:
We are excited to begin taking these small steps forward and we’re excited to begin seeing all your happy (albeit masked) faces back at the shelter. Thank you for supporting our animals and our shelter during this transitional time.
- Only 10 visitors will be allowed on the property at a time.
- Visitors must wear a mask and are asked to observe a 6-ft distance from other visitors in accordance with recommended social distancing guidelines.
- As has been our policy already, visitors to the shelter are asked to remain in their car upon arriving at the shelter. A team member will come to greet you, will fill you in on our COVID guidelines, and will let you know if we are currently at visitor capacity.
- Visitors are welcome to walk around the outdoor sections of our kennels to meet and greet our dogs; however, all interior spaces at the shelter are still closed to visitors.
- Our front office will continue to be set up on the front porch of our office building (the building with the ramp) and will continue to be accessible to visitors.
- If you are exhibiting any COVID-related symptoms, please come see us once you’re feeling better.
- Curbside appointment scheduling for foster and adoption services will continue to be an option.

According to the Center for Disease Control, there is no evidence that companion animals could spread coronavirus (COVID-19).
Foster homes! We need ready and willing foster homes who can keep pets for 4-6 weeks. The goal is to greatly increase our foster base in case we are forced to close. If you’re interested in fostering a pet, email us at [email protected].
Volunteers! Please visit our Givepulse page to find out how you can help our pets during this time!
Donations! If you cannot foster or volunteer, please consider donating. We need your help now more than ever to help us continue operations as normal and to provide all the essentials for the animals in our care. If you'd like to make a gift, you can donate toward their care HERE.
