Our mission is to provide humane shelter for homeless and lost cats and dogs, provide affordable spay/neuter and healthy pet services, encourage adoptions and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.

Southern Pines Animal Shelter promotes animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in a variety of ways, including:
  • Finding homes for unwanted pets
  • Providing humane care for all animals in our custody
  • Educating the community about the problems of unwanted, neglected, and abused animals
  • Operating a low-cost, high-quality spay & neuter clinic for the general public (opened in July 2009)
  • Sheltering lost pets and reuniting them with their owners

Southern Pines Animal Shelter is an open admission shelter, meaning dogs and cats are accepted without regard to health, age, or perceived adoptability. Southern Pines works with the cities of Hattiesburg as well as Forrest County to house their stray animals, while also accepting unwanted and lost pets from all surrounding counties. In 2019, there were more than 7,435 abandoned, lost, and unwanted pets brought to the shelter from a the state of Mississippi. Please consider adopting your next pet through Southern Pines Animal Shelter.

Together we are making a difference for animals in need. In 2019, Southern Pines Animal Shelter achieved a Save Rate of over 97.5%. Join us as we continue saving more lives than ever before.
