What Kinds of Pets do We Have for Adoption?

Cats and dogs of all ages and sizes are available for adoption at the Southern Pines Animal Shelter. Puppies and kittens are always on hand, but because adult animals are less likely to be adopted, we especially encourage adoption of the “old timers”.

Why Consider an Adult Dog or Cat?

Adult pets are especially good for homes where the family is gone all day to school or work. An adult dog or cat can also be a great companion for an older adult.

Adopting an adult pet minimizes the surprises—it ensures that the dog is the size desired, whether small or large, and allows the adoptive family to choose a dog with the desired temperament, whether rambunctious, laid-back, confident, cuddly, or shy.

Meet Our Many Available Pets

Come visit the shelter to meet all of our pets looking for homes. We’re open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. At any one time, we may have as many as 230 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.

Look for Shelter Animals at PetSmart and Petco, Too

The Southern Pines Animal Shelter is a PetSmart Adoption Partner and a Petco Adoption Partner. Cats and kittens are available most days at PetSmart and on alternating months at Petco, and dogs and puppies are available on Saturdays, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

You must be 18 years of age to adopt.

Adoption Fees

  • $100 - dogs and puppies up to 4 years old
  • $75 - dogs over 4 years old
  • $75 - cats up to 1 year old
  • $50 - cats over 1 year old

All animals under 1 year of age must have a second set of shots within two weeks of leaving our facility. This is not provided in your adoption fee, and it is something your vet must administer. Upon entering our facility, all of our animals are dewormed and given age-appropriate vaccinations. Dogs receive a heatworm test, DA2PPV, and Bordatella vaccination. Cats receive an FVRCP vaccination and an FELV/FIV test. All adopted animals are microchipped and spayed/neutered.

Our animals are our best friends, and hopefully they can be yours too!
