Found Pets

If you found a pet:

  • If the pet is friendly and has a collar and tag, call its owner and arrange for them to pick the pet up from you.
  • If the pet is friendly but doesn't have a collar and tag, you could put it on a leash and take it door-to-door to see if anyone recognizes it and knows who it belongs to.
  • If you are willing, keep the pet at your home, put up signs in your neighborhood, and run a free "found" ad in the newspaper.
  • Contact the animal shelter and report the found pet. If the pet is friendly, doesn't have any identification and you cannot temporarily care for the pet while you try to locate the owner, take the pet to the Southern Pines Animal Shelter during regular operating hours. The owner will have 5 working days to redeem the pet.
  • Place signs up in your neighborhood and community to locate the owner and notify them that their dog is at the shelter.
